Client: Craft Product Manufacturer and Supplier (CPMS)
For over 30 years, CPMS has been manufacturing high quality products for the craft, leisure and other numerous industries. Adults and children alike have used CPMS’ products in everything from home crafting to high end jewelry designs. CPMS is unique in the craft industry as it still manufactures the majority of its products in the United States.
Business Goal: Efficient Retail Channel Fulfillment with Turnkey EDI Support
As a leading specialized craft manufacturer and distributor, CPMS’ products are distributed into a number of popular retail channels, including the stores of the largest craft retailer with locations in 48 states and Canada. The craft retailer required an EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) system to manage incoming orders and invoicing of products. Its current supplier was not equipped to manage the ongoing complexities of the EDI systems or handle the additional growth in fulfillment volume. Even though CPMS had existing facilities and labor available, it needed a company who had the expertise to set-up and manage the EDI order processing system and efficiently pack and ship its wide range of products to the retailer’s entire store chain. CPMS also required a company who was scalable and could continue to grow with them.
Solution: Fulfillment Expert with Advanced Technology Support
As a proven outsourced fulfillment partner with over 20 years of experience, EchoData brought the focused expertise, quality orientation and technical savvy to help transition from their former supplier and get CPMS’ retail channel distribution up and running smoothly.
EchoData utilized its in-house technology capabilities and IT staff to design and implement an EDI-based order processing and invoicing system for CPMS. Through EchoData’s eLink, its real time browser based information portal, CPMS is also able to display and print detailed invoicing reports online. Leveraging its experience with complex pick and pack fulfillment, EchoData set up a dedicated fulfillment center (DFC) staffed with a team with strong knowledge of CPMS’ products and packing/shipping requirements.
Unique Challenges: Managing Order Complexity at the Highest Accuracy
CPMS has a very broad range of products and related accessories. Its complex order fulfillment requirements include up to 400 orders per day with orders containing as many as 35 SKUs and an average of 62 pieces per each order.
With a proven track record for managing complexity, EchoData currently manages an average of 200 orders per day and has greatly improved pick and pack accuracy over CPMS’ prior fulfillment provider. EchoData also helped CPMS improve the management of inventory levels to ensure stock is in house and available for immediate shipment.
Results: Increased Fulfillment Accuracy, Better Management Reporting
With EchoData as its fulfillment partner, CPMS is meeting its retail channel fulfillment requirements at a near 100% level of accuracy. Furthermore, EchoData has helped CPMS’ distribution operations run even more efficiently, leveraging its advanced systems to provide measurable process improvements, as well as critical information and online reporting when the client needs it most. CPMS is in the business of producing and marketing its products, and now has the confidence that EchoData will continue to support the ongoing fulfillment needs seamlessly.
